What goes on a job biodata

In the order an employer reads it. Every row is optional and every one can be renamed.

Post applied for

The exact title from the notice or advertisement, with its number if there is one. It is the first row because it is the first thing the reader checks.

Career objective

Two lines: the role you want and what you bring to it. Written plainly — a sentence, not a slogan.

Personal details

Date of birth, gender, father's and mother's names, marital status, nationality and the languages you know. These lead on a biodata; a resume leaves most of them off.

Education by level

10th, 12th, graduation and post-graduation each on its own row — board or university, year and percentage. Certifications and short courses after them.

Work experience

Current employer, designation, duration and key responsibilities, then the previous employer on one line. A fresher's set replaces this block with internships and projects.

Skills

Key skills and computer knowledge as two short rows. Name the software — Tally, Excel, AutoCAD — rather than 'computer literate'.

Declaration

The sentence every Indian job biodata ends with, then place and date, and your signature by hand after printing. The form fills the sentence in for you.

Biodata, resume or CV?

Three documents with three shapes. If the notice says biodata, send a biodata.

Biodata

Personal details first, education as a list by level, experience, and a signed declaration on one page. What government posts, schools, clerical and many private employers in India ask for by name.

Resume

Skills and achievements first, personal details mostly left off, one to two pages, unsigned. What private companies and job portals usually mean.

CV

The full academic record — every degree, paper and post — for research and teaching positions, often abroad. Several pages.

Which to send

The document the notice names. Sending a resume where a biodata was asked for reads as not having read the notice.

Questions

Is a job biodata different from a resume?

Yes. A biodata leads with personal details, lists education by level and ends with a signed declaration on one page. A resume leads with skills and achievements and leaves most personal details off. Send whichever the notice names.

Is it free?

Can I make it in Hindi?

Yes. Choose Hindi as the biodata language and every label prints in Devanagari, with the declaration filled in Hindi. The same is true of Marathi, Gujarati, Bengali, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Punjabi, Malayalam and Odia.

Should I add a photo?

Most Indian job biodatas carry a passport-style photograph top-right, and government forms usually require one. Add a recent, plain-background photo and the form crops it to the slot.

Do I need to sign it?

Yes, by hand after printing, under the declaration. The form fills in the sentence and leaves place and date for you; the signature is yours.
